Ive installed a PolarStart into a 2002 Exploer Limited. Now im having a problem where the unit wont start because its seeing tach b4 the unit starts.

Ive gone to 2 differnt tach wires at the PCM and at the injector and the same problem. Ive test all the wires and whats happeneing is the tach wires are ground at rest and when you power up ignition it goes to 12volt and the r.s. thinks the cars has started.

Is there a better source for tach on this vehcile? or another way aroudn this?

Thanks for the replies.

For tach go to one of the ignition coils or coil pack and use the wire that is NOT WHITE/ lt. blue.

I use a blue wire in one of the 2 thick wire loom against the firewall. on the passengers side.  i believe its in the upper one. I usually can't reach it, so i follow it till it heads more towards the passenger side and drops down. It's easier to reach there. So, try that one out, it works for me.

i'm not sure. Its usually don't check the engine size, i just go to the harness and use it.  so, i'm pretty sure its there regardless of engine size.  take a look to see if its there and test it to make sure.

Well what i had to do is build a realy to trip tach as that starter engages. Now it works, but after 30-45 sec the vehicle shuts down. Also every 2nd or 3rd try with the r.s. the vehcicle starts to ide surge.

Any thoughts on this problem?

When you learn tach are you letting the idle settle down? When you start these vehicle the rpms usually jump up to close to 2k, and then settle down pretty quickly which most starters don't like. And I usually use the blue/green or pink/white @ the coil pack. They should be right next to each other and either will work.
