I recently installed a Scytek Galaxy 2000RSM-2W remote starter on my 1998 Civic DX 5-speed.  It is only my second installation of ANY remote start, so you're dealing with an amateur, here.  The product manual is the WORST installation manual of any product I've ever dealt with.  I assume it is written for professionals (like yourselves) who install these things for a living.  First, this is a correct RS for a manual transmission-equipped vehicle.  I double-checked all of my wiring connections with resources at this website- all of the inputs and outputs to the control unit are correct, soldered, and heat-shrinked.  My confusion lies in how the system works and whether the remotes require programming- the "manual" is pretty vague about this.  The instructions tell me to place the trans in neutral, engage handbrake, start car, and with engine running-press remote start button on transmitter.  This engages "manual start mode" (whatever that is..?), and I then shut off the ignition switch and the car continues to run.  I then open and close the doors, and the engine will shut off.  THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART:  After I do this, the remote start transmitter will remote start the car ONE TIME ONLY.  The instructions then tell me how to "Remote start the system" (what system ?)  by pressing button 4 for three seconds, parking lights should turn on, LED should flash rapidly, and engine should start and run for duration of programmed run time.  NONE OF THIS HAPPENS.  Button 4 isn't even for remote start (according to manual!!).  Whenever I press button 4, the parking lights flash 7 times, indicating "start cancelled" (according to troubleshooting).  Now maybe I'm an inexperienced knuckle-head when it comes to these systems, but it seems that the system is capable of startting the car, but the remote just hasn't been programmed properly to do so, because I cannot see ANY reason why the "start mode" should be cancelled.  Both remotes behave this way.  I've spent countless hours out of bullheaded pride trying to figure this system out- to no avail.  I give up.  I'm two minutes away from ripping this thing out and installing a $50 dollar "bulldog" system with half the features and none of the aggravation.  OBVIOUSLY, any help would be most appreciated !

Oops.  Always proof-read your rambling posts.....  Whenever I press button 2 on my transmitter, the parking lights flash seven times indicating "start cancelled".  When I press button 4 on transmitter, I see "AUX 1" displayed on transmitter display.  According to the manual, this system has FM 2-way transmitters with an LCD display.  I'm also fairly sure that the system is NOT in valet mode, even though the "System Programming" section of the manual completely baffles me.  Help.  I've fallen and I can't get up......

I'm assuming this is your manual? Install Manual

I'm confused, so after you setup the reservation mode and exit the vehicle with the engine running it does shut down when the door closes or it doesn't?
From this statement, I'm getting from you that you got all the way through that step and then successfully remote started it. It remote starts only one time though after each time you go through the process of setting up reservation mode. Is that correct?
Does you have any type of dome light that lights up when it remote starts?

After you say it starts ONE TIME ONLY, are you opening the door? You can't open the door after you setup ready(reservation) mode. That disables the ready mode and won't allow you to start it again until you set it up again.

7 flashes is a door opened. or dome light turned on when the vehicle shut down (if you tapped into the dome light for your door trigger.

Sorry, I'm not even sure what you mean by "reservation mode" (In other words, I'm not even sure WHY I need to perform this step to get the remote start to work).  But to answer your question, yes, the engine shuts off (as it should, according to the manual) when I shut the door.  At any point thereafter, I can press button 2 and the car will remote start.  But this only works ONCE.  If I want to remote start the car a second time, I have to go through the whole "reservation mode" (as you put it) process again.

This is exactly what is occurring.  How do I engage "ready mode" (as you put it) PERMANENTLY ???  This process of 1)start engine with key 2) press button #2 on remote 3) remove ignition key, engine should keep running 4) open, then close door, engine should shut-down...... is kind of an involved process JUST TO BE ABLE TO REMOTE START THE CAR ONE TIME !!!!  Are we on the same page here ? I can remote start the car one time, get in, put key in ignition, drive away, stop car, shut engine down, walk away.  If I then attempt to remote start the car at a later time, the parking lights flash seven times and nothing happens. (Iskidoo) You sound like you know a LOT more about this system than I do, so any help is greatly appreciated.

You can not put the system permanently into 'ready mode'. This is a safety feature for a manual transmission vehicle that needs to be followed each time you exit the vehicle to ensure the vehicle was not left in gear.
Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.

Exactly, the unit sounds like it is functioning just like it is supposed to. As long as you do not open the doors after setup you should be able to remote start as many times as you like. The next time you enter the vehicle ready mode is cancelled. If you opened the door and it didn't function this way, someone could place the shifter in gear and release the parking brake. This is not an automatic transmission vehicle that can be started with no worries of it lunging forward and damaging property or running over a child. It is a standard transmission which requires this unit be designed to safely remote start ONLY if the unit verified that the car was not in gear, the parking brake is set when you exited the vehicle with the engine running. If you were to Permantly bypass this then it would be completely unsafe. If you don't want to worry about safety and ready modes then I suggest you trade your vehicle in for one with an automatic transmission.

WOW.  Suddenly, it all makes sense.  There is absolutely NO way for the control unit to see if the transmission is in neutral, so the manufacturer has you go through this "arming" procedure just to make sure that the car is in neutral and the parking brake engaged before you exit the vehicle.  Clever, mind you, just a bit of a pain in the ass.  I NOW see why some "less-reputable" installers are installing systems designed for automatic transmissions on cars and trucks equipped with manual transmissions.  I'm REALLY impressed by this forums stance to not deal with the aforementioned installers because of these safety issues- it shows a high degree of professionalism not usually associated with the industry.  THANKS A MILLION, ISKIDOO AND 12VOLT (you originally recommended this system to me at another site- thanks!) for clarifying how this system works.  I would've NEVER figured this out on my own.  I'm an ASE tech with 15 years repairing cars and trucks- but I'm just like any "newbie" when it comes to this accessory stuff.  PLEASE advise other "rookies" that the Scytek product is of excellent quality, but the "installation manual" is quite user-hostile.  I found two different versions of the same manual, and I found instances in both manuals where the words and diagrams contradict each other.  I don't envy guys that have to deal with this regularly!  Thanks, again, for your excellent explanation and assistance.
