I installed a Asianwolf 8000RS on a 2002 cavalier. I ran the tach wire from the alarm to the white wire going to the ignition coil plug. Now in my manual it talks about programming for tach/RPM mode. Here is exactly what it says....

20. Engine Sense mode. Selects between tachless and tach monitor operation.... now that means nothing to me since I have the tach wire installed.

21. RPM learn/Tach monitor. This dual program branch sets the engine mode for gas or diesel, and learns the vehicle's RPM threshold.

RPM learn/ Tach monitor. start the engine, enter branch 21 and press button 1 to learn the vehicle's tach signal and set to tach monitor mode. the siren will chirp and the LED will flash once to confirm learning of the tach signal and set to tach monitor mode. The siren will chirp four times and the LED will flash four times if the tach signal was not learned.

Tach monitor mode: monitors the vehicle's tach wire (of a fule injector's wire) in real time to determine engine status and adjust starter crank time automatically.

Now my question is that I never programmed any of that. I remote start my car and it starts up fine. Must I program it or does the remote start wait till voltage goes through the vehicle's tach wire (white wire) and thats how it knows when to dissengage?

If you didnt program either option, it will be able to crank the car and start it if the car normally starts easily.  on my car, the engine is big so Tach program is completely necessary for me.  The engine could start almost instantly or take up to a few seconds...

I would advise programming, just to be safe and prevent over crank.  program it on a cold start, start the car, do the 5 Valet button presses select the channel etc...  in my car I gave it a little gas, because the starter brings the engine up to 900 RPMs easily.  even though it may be high, it helps guarantee starts, w/out starter problems.

Thanks for the reply. So how exactly does tach/RPM sensing works. Is it that the car will continue to crank until the tach needle reaches the programmed RPM? The reason why i ask this is because when I start my car, if its by remote start or using the key, once the car has started, all the gauges like reset. What I mean by this is that the gausges will take a full second before they move to where they are supposed to go. I also did alittle test the other day. I remote started the car, and with standing outside the drivers side window, I looked at the tach, listened to the car crank. I noticed that the remote start stoped cranking even before the tach worked its way up. I then had someone else start the car, and with me standing in the same place, did the check again. Same results. the car even sounded exactly the same both times. Didnt hear any grinding at all. So could it be that the noise I hear is the starter disengaging?
