I wanted to hide the antenna totally on my Compustar 2W900FSAS (CM3000-V.3) in my Lincoln under the thin plastic panel on top of the dash (it will sit about 1/2" below this panel, lots of room there to hide it!) I really hate the looks of the CompuStar antenna so want to hide it if possible...

I figured not to put it in the headliner as it will be against the metal roof then which wouldn't be good, same with the A-pillar, but under this dash panel it will basically be sitting on my dash, but covered only by the thin plastic panel that sits on top and still higher than any metal on the car (well not the roof obviously loss of range by hiding antenna? -- posted image. )...

Think I'll lose a lot or any of the reception from doing this?

Thanks.

Why not perform a simple test. Mount it on the windshield and walk down the street. Take note of how far you get before the alarm stops responding. Repeat the process with the antenna hidden. That way -if you do decide to hide it- you won't be wondering how much of your range is being lost.

i did it with an hx antenna on a dei valet system in an 07 crv and the range stunk when it was hidden. put it on the windshield centered with antenna cable streched out and works great.

This sounds like the best way to test it of course, but I also wanted others opinions when they did this if they lost reception from doing it... Looks like its a mixed bag though and actually testing it out is the way to go loss of range by hiding antenna? -- posted image.

Thank you everyone for the input, and please keep it coming as I still want to hear even if I know it's going to be some people do and some don't lose reception loss of range by hiding antenna? -- posted image.

If its underneath just a dash pad then you wont lose much noticeable range, if you place it under neath the dash though under layers of metal, wires and modules you will lose alot.  The greatest reducer of range in an RF system is interference not material.

Yah, I was looking putting it under the top pad (actually its not even a pad on this car, just a thin sheet of plastic ~3/32" !)...
