I am having an issue with my Compustar 2WSSR receiving distance. The remote will operate the alarm from the advertised distance but I get no confirmation past approx 150 feet. I have heard the issue with the keys being attached to the remote causing problems, and I have tried without keys on the ring. I have tried several new batteries, and get the same results. I have the antenna on the windshield where they say to put it. Has anyone else had this issue? I cant decide if the remote is at fault or if its the antenna.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

make sure the antenna is not in the tint band on the top of the windshield

how long have you had that remote for? those remotes are sensitve. If you dropped it i would suggest getting it warrantied. Swap remotes see if that does the trick.

Hi, thanks for the quick responses. I dont have a tint band on the top of my windshield so that cant be the cause. And the alarm is brand new, just installed. The remote hasnt been dropped at all, and the distance has been this way since the first time I powered it up. I guess I could always just buy another remote and see if it fixes it. Couldnt hurt to have a spare.

Couple things to try:

1) this might sound dumb -- but check your chassis ground (for the r/s brain) -- make sure you have a good chassis ground connection, I have heard and read that may affect range at times

2) check your range in different areas (check it a couple miles from your place of install .. check it in a parking lot) -- radiofrequency interference may affect your range.

The search function is your friend.

Sounds like antenna to me bro. Doesn't matter weather if it's brand new. Go back to the shop that installed it and swap out your antenna. Also those antenna's come seperated. (metal and the plastic) make sure they are together.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I will check the ground again, and maybe move it to an alternate location.

I would take it back to the place that installed it, but I did the installation. I know that Compustar wont warranty this alarm, but I am a competent ASE certified auto tech and I have done many alarm installs.

One thing I found about this alarm is that the main ground is a couple gauges smaller than the main power feed, ign and starter wires. (Although I realize that the high current does not rely on this ground.)

What are you going to do if you have a bum antenna, or heaven forbid....transmitter. Did you buy this thing on line? There are NO authorized dealers on line. Just wondering.

I checked the brain ground today and even moved it to an alternate location. Condition still exists. I checked my antenna cable for any bad connections and all looks good. I took the antenna off the windshield and placed it on top of the vehicle, and tested my distance. I am still getting no confirmation from the brain after about 100 feet. Ill just replace the antenna report back what I find out.

Yes I am aware that compustar does not warranty their product if bought online, although the ebay seller I bought it from does. I just send any defective parts to them and they replace them.

i have a viper 5900sst and is having the same problem .. my antena is also fixed to the windshield and antena wire is fully extended.. my max range in the open air is only 150 yards.. will drop by half if i am in door.. so frustrated now coz i am not a diy guy n cant check myself.. my authorised dei installer who installed by system is not helpful n claims its my tranmitter battery fault but the transmitter battery icon shows battery power is full...
