I just installed a DEI Valet 561R in a 1997 Dodge Ram diesel without factory keyless entry. Truck locks/unlocks and starts but I have 2 issues I would like to get fixed.
1. Parking light flash. I found the wire down in the wiring harness by the firewall at a blue connector. I have tested and confirmed it is the parking light wire with a voltmeter. It receives (+) 12v when it is turned on. I then wired it according to the instruction with a relay as follows.
85 - White light flash output from r/s
87 - (+) 12v constant fused
86 - (+) 12v constant fused
30 - parking light circuit (T taped)
No flash though when I lock/unlock the truck or start it up.
2. Tach sense takes a couple seconds to stop the starter. I read today that I might need a 454T tach signal generator as this truck is the older 12 valve truck and might not generate a good tach signal. I tried tach learn but still no luck. I have also tapped into the tach wire under the dash and under the hood prior to entering the truck. I get very litle voltage when its running. Can anyone confirm that the above item will fix the starter issue? Or suggest another solution beside the voltage sense which I am using now but would rather not if possible.
If more detail is needed please let me know. Wiring is not my strong suit.

To answer the first question: Just connect the wire directly because your parking light wire(white) is a postivie trigger therefore the relay is not needed.  if you really want to know why the relay didnt work was because 85 and 86 are getting positive feeds.  At least one needs a negative.  According to directechs, the BLACK / YELLOW wire is the parking wire and is located at a yellow plug in  the driver kick.  If your getting voltage first you need to specify the color.   To answer question #2: Diesel tach wire is gray/black, located at the PCM on the passenger side firewall or in the main harness that runs along the firewall.

Thanks, I'll give the parking lights a try. I was under the assumption when reading the install instructions that a relay was needed for a (+) 12v parking light wire.
I have currently tapped the tach wire under the hood at the firewall just before it goes into the cab. Dodge seemed to change the wiring color to a Gray/Light Blue for at least my year. There is no Gray/Black wire in that harness or over at the PCM.
The problem I have is that with the unit set for tach wire sense and after tach learn when trying to start the truck the starter hangs a bit . I can hear it running after the truck starts and this is a sure way to kill these starters.
When I use voltage sense it seems to cut the starter shorter as I have it set on the default crank time. But it wont always start the truck on the first try. Its my understanding that it would be preferred to use tach wire sense.

By default the white wire is a positive trigger.  Im not 100% sure but there might be a little jumper on the side of the brain that can switch the polarity of the white wire to negative.  The Tach wire is very important and is key to having a successfull remote start system.

The dei manual says the relay for (+) is if more than 10A is required.
