can't clear viper 791xv memory

I installed a Viper 791xv system in my 04 WRX a couple years ago and it has worked fine. The only problem I have with the unit and have had since day one is if a warning goes off or if the alarm is tripped, I can't reset the unit. The led light continues to blink the warning signal and doesn't clear after I start and turn off the car. I can't reset the unit with the valet button. The only way I can clear the warning is by disconnecting the negative terminal on my battery. This is a pain because I have to reprogram my ECU (I have a custom engine tune), and I have to reprogram my nav system.
Is there anything else I could try or does this signify an issue with my install?
I should mention that I never connected the remote start unit and I recently saw a post that led me to believe this unit should be installed regardless of use. Any comment on that?

Reason why its happening is because the ign wire is not connected properly.  when the alarm receives the ign signal it will reset and the LED also will turn off.  Check your connections.  If you never connected the remote start then use the ribbon harness that came with the alarm and seperate the yellow wire and connect to and IGN harness and connect to the alarm box.  this wire resets the alarm everytime you turn the car on.

Did you wire in a starter kill? If so, how?
To fix your problem....
Plug the 7 pin harness into the alarm brain. Cut the end off of one end of the plug. I would leave at least a few inches of wire going to the side you cut off in case you ever wanted to connect it back in the future. Take the yellow wire in the 7 pin harnes harness and connect it to the ignition wire in the car...it will be green.

I think I am following you here. So if I should connect the yellow wire to the ignition harness, I would use the positive (in my case green) ignition wire under the steering column? It seems odd to connect this smaller gauge wire to larger ignition wire.

Sorry JWorm, I was replying to enice before I saw your post. Is it just a bypass to connect up to the green ignition wire?

Connecting the big green to the small yellow is fine. The yellow is just a low current input. It receives the (+) from the green wire when the ignition is on telling the alarm that the key has been turned on.

Got it. A while back when I bought this unit and planned on putting in the remote starter I purchased the ignition in between extender harness (call it what you will). So I will use this for my tapping needs.
If the yellow is low current and the green is positive, should I worry about putting a fuse between the yellow tapped into green connection and brain?

Sounds like you are referring to a turbo timer harness. I wouldn't bother using it just to connect one low current wire.
No fuse necessary. Just make sure you run the wire where it won't get pinched between metal.

Yes thank you, it is a turbo timer harness. Could I expect any negative effects of using this harness other than it being overkill? I am just thinking out of convenience.
