I believe this should be easy to set up. I had my alarm 'professionally' installed and set up my remote entry system myself, connecting an actuator to each door lock and 2 relays. Now I want to set up my Trunk Release, which is an option on my alarm.

I have:

2002 Kia Rio with an installed DEI Python 660xp and as well I have the wiring diagram for my alarm (so I know where I'm going ... thanks to Volicity Motors).

The first challenge that I am facing is that my car does not have a trunk release trigger built in (only can open my trunk with a key). So with the little bit of work that I have already done on my car I say... "why can't I just connect another actuator to my trunk, with some relays then wire to my trunk release port on my alarm". Sounds simply enough but potential problems that I forsee are that a door uses 1 pulse, either positive or negative. While connecting my trunk I'd need two pulses, positive (to unlatch), followed by negative (to relatch so my trunck will lock again when i close it).

Is my concern valid? or does a Trunk Release know what it's doing and use two pulses already (probably not since most cars have a built in release and i'm guessing that the alarm just triggers that release).

you need to get a trunk release silenoid it pulls in one direction every time it is triggered, this will pop the trunk for you then when you shut it , it will be locked again, you will need to trigger a relay with your negitive pulse to send positive to the trunk.

I guess that makes sence. :) Thanks for the insight, zargon ruler of estranorth. After I set up my trunk release I'll still have an extra channel on my alarm. If I wanted to make my own door popers for that extra channel could I use a trunk release silenoid as well?
