Hello,

I bought the vehicle second hand with the starter system installed.  It seemed to work fine.  Now, only the lock/unlock works and only if I press the button for a few seconds and I am close to the car.  If I am in the car, or within a foot or two of the antenna, the remote start/stop works.  Also, every dozen or so times that I try the remote start from a distance, it works!

I took it in to a dealer to have it looked at.  They concluded it needed a new remote.  It worked fine with the new remote, even from 10's of feet away, with the new remote.  I was so happy that it seemed to be working again, I went back the same afternoon and bought another remote which they programmed.  That was yesterday - I tried both remotes quite a number of times when I got back home everything seemed to work fine.

This morning, I have the same problem with the new remotes that I had with the old one - lock/unlock only near the car, remote start/stop only with a foot or so of the antenna.

I am at a real loss.  The only thing that I can think of is I had the car rigged for towing behind a motorhome and to do that they may have done something to the electrical.  But why would both remotes work so well after being programmed and then revert back to my original problem the next day?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Grant

Trouble shooting another mans work sucks. Especially if your not a 12volt guy! The "dealer" typically won't be any help either.  You said "a dealer" ...... what kind of dealer? Car lot dealer? Car audio store dealer?

The antenna has its own internal electronics, and antennae do go bad once in a while.
It would be a VERY simple matter for the dealer who sold you the remotes, to plug in another antenna, try it out, and see if that makes a difference.
If you look at the antenna attached to the windshield glass, you'll see that it unplugs easily. Just get them to plug another antenna in. (don't bother gluing it onto the glass, just let it hang there for now.) Then take a walk with the remotes, and see if it works any better.
