Why do i sometimes have to hit a button 3 times before anything happens? The remote says its transmitting but it takes 3 times, seems like the remote sleeps or something? Anyone know? I heard some compustar ss's have problems but i didn't expect this, its not a big deal cause it works but just a PITA

Wow, big talker.

Anyways Spread Spectrum has a slight delay on the remote because it uses 900 MHz and 50 different channels. Unlike DEI they use 25 channels. With normal code hopping you’re only using one channel so it's consistent when in range and no interference. So a good example of SS is like a cordless phone. When you get interference you hit the channel button to switch to another channel and it becomes clear. That’s Spread Spectrum.

Here is a tip. When you have trouble communicating to your vehicle just take out the battery and put it back in. This resynchronizes the remote to the antenna. If you keep on having issues take it back to the shop you purchased it from and get a warranty.

I know that CompuSTAR is on there 2nd generation SS. They were the first the implement this technology into Remote starters and alarms. So I would be careful swerk on who you’re talking trash about. And if I heard right CompuSTAR is pretty big in Canada? Why do you hate on them so much?

SS is good for if you work at an airport or somewhere where there’s a lot of FM frequency (interference), if not. I recommend going with a different system. Try out the 2W900FMR and Antenna. This is an awesome remote with good range. It is very consistent and you'll love it.

the reason that i hate on compustar is that there are too many stupid little things that go wrong with them. whether it is loss of programming, being put accidentally put,in valet, or something like what Dmasgz45 described. there are just too many hicups, as far as them being big in canada sure but nothing like astrostart and autostart. its just my opinion. i am very busy and i dont have time to be on the phone all day or out with vehicles with customers to reprogram starters or what not i do almost 2000 starters per year with autostart and astro an less than 1% of them ever come back to bite me in the ass. not to say i hate on them but i just dont use them . time is money

I need to chime in on this one. First off, I have Astrostart in my blood. I feel bar none, it's the best remote start in the world. I have only had 1 "go bad" in 7 years. And it was in MY CAR....go figure. All be it, I don't do 2000 a year.

Compustar is far from junk. If range, features etc. are what you need, there is none better. The new PRO is cool stuff. I myself do not need to start my Civic from 63.2 miles away....but some love it.

As dswift said the SS has had a rough start, and needs to be explained to the customer. MOST of the problems with ANY of the compustars are the result of poor education to the customer, from the installer, or salesman. This isn't your typical turn and burn product. The SS, one needs to have the ability to be cool with the buttons.....you start pushin and pushin, your sure to screw something up.

Compustar IS the leader in 2 way... period.

Thats all....compustar ss remotes sleep or something? -- posted image.

Granted the range from firstech products is fantastic, but reliability and ease of use are far more important to me as i only do dealer work. i cannot rely on dealer salespeople to properly educate customers on their starters once that deal is done they are on to the next one. there is the last penny of my 2 cents

Yeah, i agree with all you, but compustars definitely aren't junk..I'm shocked with how far away the distance works on the 2wss alone, not pro, even tho it's 5 years old. I've come to the conclusion you can't be walking with the remote and trying to press buttons because you wont get a return confirmation, big deal. the range is SICK, lets not forget about in mall parking lots with thousands of cars around. There is a delay, but my #1 point in an alarm was range, which lead me to the leader in SS.........

I agree with DSwift, the P2WSSR is not for everyone ;)

Note:

The remote will auto sync if it fails to communicate after sending 8 comands or more, During the time the P2WSSR is auto synching it is frequency hoping in search of the antenna. Autosync will display on your remote for 5 to 8 seconds. Like DSwift said, if that doesnt work, take the battery out and put it back in to re-sync manually.

My viper 5900 sometimes takes about 2 seconds to recieve signal from the car that it has been unlocked, locked, etc. but i never have to push the button more than once and also uses spread spectrum technology..

I've worked with dealerships before. If you hook the dealer up with a demo and properly demo how the unit works. Then they can educate the customer themselves. And for a good car salesman, after selling a car to a customer they are not DONE and they do not go the the next. (well not my dealerships anyhow) They are clients for as long as they own the vehicle. Just like when i sell a remote start or alarm they are a customer of mine until they no longer live in the vacinity or something else. It seems to me that you rush to get money. Hopefully your installs doesn't look like how i am picturing it. Hehe. Are you a t-tap user? Just wonderin. Anyways again...
Firstech has fixed the valet mode. Now the ignition wire has to be hot in order to put the system into valet mode. or you can manual put the system into valet, cycling the ignition 5 times fast.
I personally don't offer the SS to dealers. Niether should you. Dealers are like babys. They need something simple and easy to use for the cherry on top of their sell. Word is bond son. =)
Swerk do you probe or use a multi-meter? Just wondering again?
