Your car probably will not start because of your factory anti-theft system it's not really an alarm. Your 92 Park Avenue utilizes GM's VATS system. This system incorporates a resistor pellet in the key that the computer needs to see to allow the vehicle to start.
There are a couple of options you could use:
1. You could tow the car to a dealership and have the key cylinder replaced at the approximate cost of $500 (this is the price a friend was quoted last season).
2. You could permanently bypass it with a little solder, about 10 minutes of time and a resistor that costs less than $1.00.
To permanently bypass the VATS take a DMM and read the resistance across the pellet in the key. Head to radio shack and pick up a resistor (or resistors) that match the value you read off the key. Pop down the dash and find 2 white wires in an orange jacket. Cut the white wires and solder the resistor across them on the side heading down to the car leaving the wires coming from the column disconnected. Done.
Most shops around here would do that job for you for 1/2 hours labor.
Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.
