Hello,
I have recently installed Hornet 970T remote starter. When the starter is activated, the ignition turns on, followed by the starter. The engine runs for about 7-10 seconds and shuts off. The remote starter then tries to do the same again twice, and same thing happens. The remote starter does not seem to recognize that the engine is running.
Basically the installation manual said to try the Tach mode instead (tach wire is not connected as of now). But why would the voltage method not work? If I have to go to tach, does anyone know what color is the tach wire supposed to be? The wiring diagram said BROWN / Red, but I could not find that wire under the hood. Can I just use spark plug signal as tach or is there a better way?
Thanks for help.

is there a chip in your key? sounds kinda like an imobilizer. try hooking up tach, if that fixes it the awsome, if not i would make sure you dont have a chiped key or something.

No transponder in this year. You have a tach issue. The tach is on the coils.... blk/yell.

From your symptons it's definately a tach issue, if the vehicle was transpondererd, you would get the starter turning over but no firing, even we didn't get a factory transponder until '99

Hey guys, thanks for your help.

KarTuneMan, when you say the coils, do you mean the harness attached to the distributor? I checked, that harness does not have BLACK / YELLOW wire, there are two solid black ones though. I don't want to sound dumb, I just want to make sure before I start cutting and soldering wires... I read the general topic on the tach wires too. The problem is that it's very hard to find even with the multimeter, the thing starts oscillating voltage when you bring the test pin near engine.

A mechanic told me that the coil pack is built into the distributor. If not, where is the coil?

Thanks.

Is this a four cylinder? Look behind top of block towards firewall, squarish metal unit about 1" acroos containing wires, coming from this are 4 sets of 2 wires going into plugs at rear (firewall side) of cyl/head, 4 wires will be one colour (common) the other 4 wil be different colours, these are the injector ports, use ONE of the different colours for your tach pickup.

Thanks!!!

I used the injector wire and it works!!! I was so happy I thought it would never work.

The only problem is it takes two tries to start it, the first time it doesn't crank it enough, that's probably my battery right?

What wire did you use for the tach connection?

I used the (+) wire of the injector closest to the driver's side. Each injector has BLACK/ red wire as the negative, and the multiple colored once that are positivie. I used one of the colored ones. Not sure which color it is exactly, but I checked it with multimeter and it should be the positive input for the injectors.

Thanks.
