Hi all, I'm installing a RS for a friend with a Pontiac Montana SV6.  I have a couple of questions....

1) does the keysense wire need to be used for this application ? (Van uses the passkey III system)

2) I can't get the top cowl off the steering column in order to get the transponer wire looped around the ignition lock.  Is is acceptable to cut the transponder loop wire, feed it around the lock cylinder (to make the loop), then solder the wire back together ?  It seems that in order to get the top cowl off the column, I need to pull the wiper stalk and the key tumbler out which would be a huge pain !!  With only the bottom cowl off, I could feed a wire around the cylinder... I just don't want to mess up the transponder by cutting and re-connecting the transponder wire.

3) do I need to connect the door pin wires ?  What is their purpose ?

thanks in advance for all your help !!

Regards,

Rod.

1) Keysense is not required to bypass the PK3.
2) Do yourself a favor and pick up a GMBP by trilogix/bypasskit.com/dei. It hooks up to the OBDII connector, eliminates the need to lose a key (an expensive key at that), eliminates the need to remove the column and is more reliable than a key-wrap bypass in cold weather.
3) Door pins are for a security system installation, or a manual transmission installation. No need to interface with them if you are installing just a remote start into an automatic transmission vehicle.
Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.

Thanks for your quick reply !!  It sure helps to get a better understanding of some of the features.  I was worried after reading about how perhaps the van would wipe out the codes for both the key in the ignition and the dummy key in the transponder box if it sensed 2 keys in the ignition (if "keysense" was not used).

I will definately use the bypass kit transponder in future installations, however, for this one, I already have a spare key set up and have wired the coffin type transponder to the car.  The only part left for the install is the looping of the wire around the ignition.  As per my initial post, do you think that any harm would be done if I were to cut the loop wire, feed it around the ignition, then reconnect it again ?  I'm not sure if the cut/soldered reconnection would impact on the resistance/signal  shown in the wire.

Thanks again for all your help !!

Regards,

Rod.
