Can someone explain what the anti-car jacking feature does?  Thanks, Paul

not too familiar with the system but anti car jacking sounds like a feature that controls a relay for starter kill, gas pump kill etc. It just send a constant ground when armed to drive a relay for the feature. i mayh be wrong so dont take my word for it.

It has been a long time, but from what I remember if the door is opened while the ignition is still powered up, the alarm assumes you have been car-jacked.  The car will continue running for a short time, I think 20 seconds.  Then it will die, it gives them 20 seconds so they can drive away from you.  If ever you open the door, in order to keep the car running and deactivate the feature, you have to turn lights on then off to let the alarm know that you opened the door  not a car jacker.

Thank you both for the information.  The manual explains how to use the feature, but it doesn't explain what it does.  The manual recommends contacting an Alpine installer - I had no luck there.  If I didn't like old equipment and the alarm wasn't new in the box, I would probably toss it out.  It does have an impressive looking remote.

i can confirm that the anti hijack feature that i am an idiot mentioned is correct. I just did some cleaning and found a manual of a Generic china made alarm that has ANTI-HIJACK feature. The car will start, and the antihijack feature is enabled. Anti hijack allows the user to open the door and within 30 seconds of opening door, the key must be placed into ignition or car will turn off. Pressing brakes has no effect because antihijack mode is set to active. if anti hijack is off, brake shutdown can be used. I guess anti hijack is alright, if the guy can drive fast enough for 30 seconds he might actually get somewhere =p
