OK dealer friends of mine. Just found out a dirty little secret. Selected Alpine products will now be sold at, you guessed it, WALMART! The sellout of this industry is complete. Good night America. ( and you too Rob)

I work for an Alpine Dealer. We have been for over 20 years. About 12 years ago we were given an Ultimatum from them, Open another store or we will give it to your compettitor, we did, everything was fine till 6 months ago. they without notice gave the line to 2 other stores within 2 miles of one of our locations. I thought to myself next stop WalMart. Guess I saw it coming but was hoping it would not. Other than your post I haven't heard anything else about it.   Thanks for the HeadsUp.

Here's the dirty proof.http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5799537

What ever happened to MAP pricing?!?! Guess that only applies to the "NON Walmart" dealers. Alpine can go where the sun don't shine!

So when do they open the install bays. Wouldn't it be fun to work there installing for only $7.50 an hour with no benefits.

The word is wal mart is going to severly down size their mobile electronics down, do to the high volume of returns from the 12 pack hacks frying everything. Apparently some manufactures are tired of having tons of  "defective"  product returned daily. Its really sad to see they got their mits on some alpine, it surely is a quick way to ruin a respected brand.

Sounds like a opportunity for me to sell more things that they do not if you ask me. Thanks for the heads up Bob.

This press release came out 6/29/07 from the CEA:

Unauthorized Alpine Speakers On Walmart.com

Torrance, Calif. — Alpine USA said the two car speakers currently listed on Walmart.com are not authorized and that Alpine is not selling any products to Wal-Mart.
The car stereo specialty manufacturer said “Alpine has not entered into nor contemplated a business relationship with Wal-Mart.”
An Alpine spokeswoman said the speakers appeared on the Wal-Mart Web site several days ago, but the company is confident the products will be removed from the site shortly. Alpine’s legal department is now trying to track down the unauthorized source of the products, assumed to be one of Wal-Mart's Chinese suppliers, she said. "Appropriate legal action may be taken."
An Alpine 6x9 coaxial two-way speaker set at $54.86 and a 6.5-inch coaxial set at $58.86 was listed on the site as “online only” and was also designated as “out of stock” this afternoon.
Wal-Mart’s media department said it would look into the matter.
