i have a 1999 pontiac grand am and i found a button down above to hood release. It has a black and grey wire coming form it behind the panel, and i dont know what the button is for.

Sounds like it could be a valet switch for an aftermarket alarm. Do you have an alarm on the vehicle? If so what brand is it?
