hi there, i need to find out what kind of relay i need, and how to wire it. i have a diesel coolant heater, and want to bea able to turn it on with my remote starter trunk output. i would like to be able to hit the trunk release (which is a neg output) and have it power up the heater which requires 12 volts constant to run. then i would like to either turn it off again by hitting the trunk release once more. now do i need 2 relays or 1?? and how do i wire that up?? thanks in advance

connect as follows:

85=12v constant

86=truck release wire from alarm/rs unit

30=12v constant

87=to heater unit

87a=not used

won't that standard bosch type relay shut off once the signal is sent? i need the relay to stay on until i hit the trunk release again. correct me if i am wrong please. i want the trunk release to energize the relay and have the relay stay on until i tell it to shut off.

What alarm are you using? there is a programable output correct?

i have an arctic start 2 way alarm/rs. it is in my truck, and i don't use the trunk release which is a neg(-) output. i have a diesel powered coolant heater for the truck, but it only has an on/off switch. once the switch is on, it puts 12v to the heater. i would like to use the trunk release to turn the heater on, then if i need to, use the trunk release again to switch it off.

Can your trunk relese output be programmed to be latching? on a side note, where did you get a 12v heater? i've been looking for one. how much power does something like that consume? all i ever see are 120v heaters

it is called a webasto, do some searching, it is expensive, but worth every penny. it circulates coolant, and uses diesel for heating. i have put an aux battery in the truck so it won't draw my starting batteries. it doesn't consume too much power. i can leave it on all night without killing a car battery. i think if i set some relays up like this, it will work need relay, diesel coolant heater -- posted image.
