how to check this relay?

i have a 1982 merceds benz  and my windows and  windshield wipers went out,,

how can i check this?,,

has 5 legs  12v 20a/30a   

one side  3 legs   1leg-85  2leg-30  3leg- 30a,87

the other side 2 legs     1leg- 20a,87a    2leg-86  

some other numbers on it

sr9850

0015420219

then i have  2 circle numbers one side    01  and  82

in top the is  a diagram    nr#3085    868787a

Using an ohm meter you should read very near 0 ohms when checking between terminals 30 and 87A.  Now apply 12 volts to 86 and ground to 85.  This will energize the relay.  Now you should read very near 0 ohms when testing from terminal 30 to 87.

Swap it out with another one that you know works.
