hi guys

the problem im having is,

i have a mini 12v motor with possitive or negative to chose from. what i want this motor to do

is turn one way or the other with a switch. ive tried a relay im lost now

Yeah - eljefecito's is preferred (less shorting risk etc).
But both are otherwise equivalent.

Actually if you think about it, the diagram I posted has one less terminal that will see a positive voltage.  My switch has 4 terminals that may at some time have positive voltage.  His diagram has 5 terminals that will at some time see a positive voltage.  On the corners of my switch, there are only 2 terminals that hav positive voltage on them.  The other diagram will have positive voltage on all 4 contacts. 

But as long as there is not an Idiot connecting the setup, he will probably be OK.

Yep - I've had one of those days too.
I figured yours always has 2 corners +ve.
eljefecito's has no corners +ve when off.
Both are the same when on - 2 corners plus a centre is +ve.

theres no idiot doing this setup,, everything is bench tested before it goes in my truck
