electric fans with timer option

I am getting ready t install a set of dual fans on my old pickup. I would like to add a switch that would shut the fans off when the truck is turned off or let the fans run for 2 or 3 minutes to cool off the engine compartment. So in other words, in the summer months I would have the switch set to allow the fans to run through a timer that would run the fans for two or three minutes, in the winter months I would have the switch set to turn the fans off with the ignition. My truck is a 1985 Dodge crew cab with a 360, I am working towards installing megasquirt fuel injection later this winter, there will be a lot of electronics under the hood and I'm concerned about the heat. As always your insight is appreciated...

Why not the timer relays in this site? Not that I am familiar with them, but I a not a fan (pun!) of solid state relays for this type of application. And "hot electronics" for a cooling function? (But most timers are.) Though if you use another relay for the fans (since the SSR only handles 15A), the SSR is ok. The main issue is triggering the timer relay. (FYI: I make my own circuits to control plain relays.) And are you installing the megasquirt itself in the cabin? (I presume so, but it sounds like you may be putting it under the hood.)

I was thinking of just using the timer relay to trigger a 40 amp relay, I'll just use the slow speed on the fans. I have looked at numerous fan relay setups on this sight and I think I can modify one to suit my needs. I'm going to convert the glovebox area to mount the megasquirt, the relay board for the MS will be mounted under the hood. During the summer months there is just a lot of heat under the hood, I think if the fans just ran for 2 or 3 minutes it would have to help.
