relay, hid, h7, highbeam, saab 9-3

i tried searching but i don't know much about relays or the terms of other components, i need a relay that only switches above a certain watt.. my car has factory hids, with the flap inside the projector for high beams, i have reprogrammed the cars computer to allow for h7 higbeams to activate in euro setting.. problem is it turns off the flaps in the main beam for highs.. i can cant the signal current from the h7 blubs but the car has a bulb checking system that sends a small current, it is not enough to light up the h7 bulb but it is enough to send the current through and it opens the flaps for highbeams quickly. so it looks like my highbeams flash every other second with the relay i currently have that i purchased from autozone.. im new here and would appriciate any help ! thanks, brad

It sounds like you need to separate the H7s from the checking circuitry - ie, a dummy "checked" load and the H7s turned on via a relay. But IMO it's strange that if "programmable" for H7s it would have this problem, though "programmable" may be to cater for international models each of which have different hardware (eg, circuit checking characteristics).     AFAIK there is no relay that switches above a certain current per se. You would need a current sensing circuit that switches whatever normal relay.

How should I separate the h7's ?.. The bulb checking system is the only thing you can't program..it's a Saab 9-3.. European version allow the use of the h7 bulbs.. Us versions (which is what I have) just has dummy bulbs in until you re program to euro setting..I also have aftermarket hids for the h7 bulb which set off the bulb checking system. I could get error eliminators but then the hids blink for a min when I turn the car off.

I assumed keeping a dummy load for the continuity checker whilst separately powering the H7s would be a solution. But I do not know the circuitry etc, it was merely an "in principle" solution. Are the "error eliminators" a substitute CAN signal, or a dummy load? And how is power fed to the bulbs as opposed to the full-time sensing current?
