Could a relay be bad even if I can hear the switch click when the coil is energized? I've probed the hot end of the switch, and it's getting +12V, and I can hear the coil click, but then the switched output still doesn't have power. I'm definitely using the n/o output. I don't have another relay to test with right now, and all I can think of is that it must be shot..

it could be but as far as i know it would be unlikely. What do you mean the "hot end", try using a multimeter to confirm the operation.

All the relays in my car click... when current flows through the 85 86 posts. I believe that's the sound of the pintle hitting the 87 posts's back side. It's not like the coil is going to gradually make a magnetic field and gently have them make contact.
I'm having a similar problem right now where I can't seem to get flow while the relay isn't powered at the 87a post. Voltmeter on mine shows almost nothing at either of the 87 posts (which are both labled 87, but I would believe one to be the 87a).

Yeah.. didn't think to test the 87a post, guess I'll try that tonight.
