hello,

I have no real experience with relays. What i have so far is a Laptop in my trunk in a docking station, a 14 inch LCD attached to the passenger dash, a power inverter. The power inverter is located in the trunk near the battery (BMW 328is) and is directly connected to it.. i need to be able to turn the key and shut the inverter off automatically.

After i a bit of reserch i found that this can be done using a realy. Now all this is setup near the CDplayer install area and the factory wires are hanging as i dont have a CD player. A red (constant power) a Yellow (Suposed to be switched but dint work) and a brown wire were there.

If one of those wires were some kind of activator then i could get this to work with minimal effort.

i talked to an installer and they wanted $110 dollars for it... im sure thats a ripoff!! cause all he could say is that he needed to buy heavy guage wires!!!

Any help would be appriciated ..thanks:)

First find an ign or accessory wire in the trunk then wire a relay like this, 85 ground, 86 ign or acc wire from vehicle, 30 constant power(from the battery would be best in this situation) and 87 output to positive on the inverter. Then just ground the inverters ground and then the inverter will turn on and off with the key.
