blowing fuse for fuel pump system

my freinds 1989 chevy s10 pickup, everytime we place a fuse into the slot for the fuel pump it blows even when the switch is off, he just replaced the in tank fuel pump and made all of the conections right, all i need is some kind of wiring digram on that circut.

Sounds like he pinched a wire when he installed it.

Or the new pump might even have a dead short in it.

By the switch being off I assume you mean the ignition switch? If so, typically you should not power when the ignitoin is off (thats typically) so the fuse should not be blowing untill the ignition is on. I agree with the previous replies. Sounds like you might need to take the pump out again and check for pinches or defects. Also be sure that the part you have is for your specific model year and equipment type vehicle. Many parts appear to be the same but are internally different, like Ford door latch switches. They all look and fit the same but they're not.
