I have a 1996 Talon which has one single filament bulb for the blinkers and 2 dual filament bulbs for the brakes. I am planning to black out the amber, so I need to make my brake lights blink with the blinker. I am not great with electronics and I can't figure out how to make it work and have my brake lights function normally. Also, senquential blinkers would be even better if it wasn't too complicated. Ok, i think I have it figured out. But as far as your brake lights functioning normally? There will be one drawback. When you press your brakes while your blinker is on, only the other brakelight will light up, not both.
Hopefully if you have a good third brake light, this wont really be a a problem. I dont know how to do a diagram on here, so I'll try my best to explain it. You'll need two SPDT relays, one for each light. They both wire up the same. First, cut the brake light wire behind the tail light. The side of the wire going to the bulb, connect it to terminal 30. The side of the wire coming from the car connect it to terminal 87a. Cut the blinker wire from the bulb and connect it to terinal 86. Connect terminal 85 to ground, and connect terminal 87 to a 12volt ignition wire, with a 10 amp fuse on the wire, or run the same ignition wire to both relays and put in a 20 amp fuse. Another thing, you will most likely need to change out your turn signal flasher and replace it with an electronic flasher(about 7 or 8 bucks) because the flasher will no longer "see" a load on the wire from the bulb. A relay uses very little current so it wont be enough of a load for your stock flasher to flash. Most likely the electronic flasher will solve that problem, they work when replacing all your bulbs with LED bulbs(which have VERY little current draw). Let us know how it turns out!

CORRECTION: you have 2 brake bulbs in each tail light? Do as I described, but you'll need 4 relays, one on each bulb. And you can just tie the blinker wire to the 86 terminals on both relays. Heres my best rendition of a wiring diagram. Use a two relay setup like this for each tail light.Blinking Brake Lights -- posted image.

If I have 12+ on both 87 and 87a, it wouldn't blink would it? It would just be switching back and forth from one + to the other. Maybe I am confused. And if I felt 87 open, the blinkers would only operate when the brake light was on.

Damn, your right. My setup would work fine, unless you use the turn signal and brake at the same time. The 87a would be hot from the brake being pressed, so it would be switching back and forth between two 12v connections, therefore staying lit, not blinking. Now we need to figure out a way to kill the power to 87a, only when the brake AND the blinker are used at the same time. HMMM....

Do some homework, try to see if you can find the turn signal wires in your dash BEFORE they connect to the flasher. If you connect there, you'll have a steady out put when you turn on the blinker, instead of a blinking output. If you can have a steady output for the entire duration that you have the blinker on, that steady output can trigger another relay to kill the power from the brakelight wire going to 87a. If you cant find a steady turn signal output in your dash, maybe you can try this:Blinking Brake Lights -- posted image.
then you can take the wire coming from terminal 30 and use that to trigger another relay wired up like a starter kill relay and use that to kill the brake wire when the blinker is on. You'll end up using 8 relays total by the time yer done, but I think that could make it work like you want to. Look here for more info.

Ok, I think I figured out something a little easier. Thanks for all your help. Here is the new idea, This way, when the brake lights are on, 87 on relay #1 will see nothing and when they are off it will see +12v.

Cool, that would work. I see what you you did, instead of killing the power from the brake, you kill the power to 87 when the brakes are pressed. Why didn't I think of that? :P Except one thing, terminal 30 on the 1st relay you have labeled "to brakes" do you mean the brake light bulb? Cuz thats where its supposed to go.

After you wire everything up, you car tail lights should end up being just like mine. I have an 87 Cutlass. My tail lights have 2 dual filament bulbs, no seperate bulb for a blinker. When my parking lights are on, all bulbs are lit, when I press my brakes, they all get brighter. When I use my turn signal, that one side blinks brighter. But when I use my turn signal and brakes at the same time, the other side gets bright and the side with the turn signal on flashes from dim to bright. I was figuring out how my tail lights work when I was thinking up all those relay configurations, lol

Thanks alot for your help dude. Yes, 30 on the first relay goes to the brake light, I guess that's kinda misleading. Again, thanks for your help.
