I've got a problem.  I'm working on another project and I need some expert advice.

I've got a switched 24 volt supply wire that I want to use to power a 12 Volt hour meter.  If I use a 24 volt relay and use my 24 volt wire as the switching means and then hook 12 volt supply to it, will that work?

THanks in advance.

It is a small counter used to track the number of hours an engine is running.  In this case, an outboard motor on a boat.  It uses a 12 volt power lead and a ground.  When it has power, it counts time, when it doesn't it doesn't.
