Hi !

I was wondering if someone knows how to rig a couple of relays so that the lights come on like this:

1. When the parking lights go on the X-tralights will go on.

2. When the Low-Beam goes on the X-tra lights will go off.

3. When the High-Beam goes on the X-tra lights will go on

The car in question is an Ford Probe - 94 Sec. Gen.

The function for the lights today is as follows:

1. The parking lights goes on via a knob on a lever.

2. The Low-Beam goes on via the same lever, Parking lights are still on.

3. The High-Beam goes on by the same lever, X-tra lights goes on.

Sincerely yours:

Magnus

2 Relay diagram, can be done with one though.
Relay 1
85 ground, 86 +parking light, 30 +12V from output of relay 2(pin 87A), 87 +12 volt output to lights.
Relay 2
85 ground, 86 +low beam, 30 +12V, 87A output to 30 of relay 1.
This way the xtra lights will be on anytime that the parking lights are except when the low beams are active.

Sounds straightforward to me...

All I have to do is to run a cable to a switch in the panel so that I can turn the X-tra lights off when it's parked.....

Thanks for the help...  ;-)

Good thing I found this topic, I was looking for a similar setup and this is my first time working with relays.
I also have a set of auxilary lights, I want to be able to turn on and off with a switch, but then have them turn off with the high beams so they can pass inspection. so, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is how i figured i need to wire them.....
Relay 1
85 ground, 86 +power switch, 30 +12V from output of relay 2(pin 87A), 87 +12 volt output to lights.
Relay 2
85 ground, 86 +high beam, 30 +12V, 87A output to 30 of relay 1.
OR, like mentioned above i could have 86 on relay 1 run to the parking lights so i never forget to turn all my lights off, lol.

another quick question.....its my understanding that 85 and 86 can be used interchangeably as power or ground, respectively. the 1 relay that did come with my foglights has 85 to be the +signal and 86 to be the ground.
when you reverse the polarity like that on a relay, do 87 and 87a also swap functions? if thats the case i can just swap the 85 and 86 wires on the harness i have to make it easier on myself.

Nope. Reversing the flow through the coil portion has no effect on the current flow through the switching portion.
