Hi,
Im trying to fit a starter button onto my honda civic, I got a kit with all the instructions on it but still cant get it to work starter button on 93 civic -- posted image.
when I turn the key to position 2 and push the button nothing happens the illumination on the button doesnt even come on although the car will still start when I turn the key
Ive wired it up as follows - these are all tapping into wires so the key can still be used (its a savage prostart button with illumination - a 'universal' one)
pin 86 on the relay to 12v ignition live output (BLACK / YELLOW wire)
pin 30 on the relay to starter wire (BLACK/ white)
pin 87 on the relay to permanent 12v via fuse (white)
pin85 on the relay to pin2 on the starter button
pin1 on the starter button to ground
for illumination
pin4 on the starter button to ground
pin5 on the starter button to alternator warning light (WHITE/ blue) - im not sure on this but it says connect it to headlight switch/side lights/night illumination
for the ground point I used a nut next to the fusebox - which im also not sure about being a valid ground
any help is appreciated thanks

Is it a manual tranny? Are you pushing clutch?

Is pushbutton defective? Try simply applying a ground to pin 85 of relay with ignition on. Does the relay click? If yes but doesn't start then check pin 87 for 12 volts - fuse might be blown. Test if 12 volts exits on pin 30 - could be a bad relay or a bad crimp at relay socket.

The car is an automaticstarter button on 93 civic -- posted image.

Ive verified the ground by connecting the constant and getting voltage, and Ive managed to get the illumination on the button to work but thats it.

I'll check the relay like you said and get back to you, thanks for the help.

Check to see if there is continuation on the button when pushed. if so, then it's a bad connection in there. If not, it's a bad switch.
