Hi. I would like to use the lighter in my 64 Chevy as a cut off switch.
When the lighter is pushed in, it makes a complete circuit and the car will start. Does anyone know how I could wire this up? This will be used as a theft deterrent.
Thanks,
Bob

Yes..what I would do is cut the positive wire going to the lighter and insulate the vehicle side. Now when you press the lighter in the ground will go thru the coil and out the postive wire coming off the back of the lighter.

Connect the positve wire you cut (now puts out a negative when the lighter is pushed in) to terminal 85 of a relay. Cut  the start wire of the vehicle. Put 86 and 30 to the key side of the starter wire and put 87 to the motor side. The vehicle will now only start when the lighter is pressed in. The neg from the lighter will allow the relay to energize when the key is turned to crank and complete the circuit to the starter. When the lighter is not pressed in the contacts on the relay (30 and 87) will remain open so no start. 87a is not used in this case.

There are other ways to do it as well and there is also a way to keep the lighter functional as well but I forgot how..been a while since I have done this. But this will serve the function you wish to accomplish.

Good Luck
