Hi, I am installing a RS on a 2008 Ford Escape 4cyl 2wd. It is a "AUDIOVOX AS9233ST" RS with a "Directed PKFM XpressKit Ford Data Transponder Override". This forum has already been helpful for the wiring diagrams I needed but I cant seem to get a tach signal to the RS. I have already tried running a wire directly from one of the coils thru the firewall but this is not working. I have read that it only needs to be to one coil and to the wire that is odd to all of the other coils. No luck! The RS is giving me a error that no tach signal is being recieved.
Any hints for this would be great. The options for my RS also state there is a tachless mode but it does not say how to switch to that mode? Does the escape really have a built in anti-grind that makes the tach worthless? Thank you all for your time.

If that is the Duratech engine, you should have 4 injectors, one wire is common to all the injectors, any other wire.

Or pins either 26 or 52, right hand end of top two rows.
Measure with a DMM, black probe to ground, red to suspect wire, set DMM to 20VAC.
You should get a 3-5 volt AC reading at idle, increasing slightly on revving up.

Thanks for the info. It is a Duratech with 4 injectors. I started with a connection to one of the injectors on the uncommon wire. Can this wire be tested with a DMM in the same fashion? Also do you know where the location of these pins are in the vehicle? Thanks again.

Yes to your first question.
Sorry, I forgot, I was referring to the engine management unit.
I'm making an assumption here, based on the British Ford Mondeo and Focus which both use that engine. My only doubt was that since these engines are UK, build locations are 4 cyl, UK, V6, US and V8, UK and US. I was on safe ground, the EMU is by Visteon (Ford) rather than Siemens (just about every other European built car, from Mini to Toyota). You should be OK.

Thanks for the info. I now have it working. I ended up matching the wire color off of the coil to the wires coming out of the ECU. There are three wires of the same color pattern coming from the ECU that match the coil. I tested each of these with my DMM: two stayed constant and one increased with throttle so I used that as my tach input. The RS now works with a key in the ignition. Now I cant get the bypass to work. Funny thing I thought that would be the easy part. Ohh well I am going to switch to the RS topic for that one. Thanks again!!

Glad we got that sorted, now at least you know how to test!
