I have an '03 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab SE with the factory six speaker stereo.  Does anyone have any information on the factory 9 speaker Fosgate system?  Is it that much better than the standard system?  Is my truck pre-wired for the additional 3 speakers and amp(s)?  Is there any difference in the head units other than the Fosgate logo?  Does the sub have its own amp built into the enclosure?  Where is (are) the additional amp(s) located?  Besides the sub, what are the 2 additional speakers in the Fosgate system?  Are the other speakers (rear door, front door, a-pillar tweets) upgraded in the Fosgate version or are they the same as mine?  I'm considering yanking a Fosgate system from a totalled Frontier (no, I havn't located one yet) and I'm wondering if it's worth it/how difficult it would be.  Any answers to the above questions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

You should know that the stereo equipment is usually one of the first things to be removed from a totalled car.  The chances of you locating an '03 truck that's totalled and has the rockford fosgate system, and none  of the components damaged, is very small.  And unless you can find it in the vehicle yourself you'd have to buy it from somewhere/someone and if they'll probably charge a lot for it.  A lot more than it's worth at least.

You'd really get better sound from a dedicated aftermarket system anyways.  Yes it's rockford fosgate gear but it's not really "real" RF equipment.  It's got their logo on it and all but the amplifier is pretty darn weak and the speakers aren't anywhere near as good as a pair of aftermarket RFs.  Also, I never really was a fan of RF head units.  There's nothing wrong with them really, but for what you get there are definitely better choices out there with more features for the same or sometimes even less money.

Thanks for the advice, but actually,  there was a full Frontier Rockford system removed from a totalled vehicle on ebay last week .  ( http:///.com/ebaymotors/dll?ViewItem&category=38646&item=2419186613 )  The reason I'm pursuing this is because I don't want to go aftermarket.  Been there, done that.  I'm not that much of an enthusiast to justify the time and expense.  Of course, I understand that a carefully chosen and expertly installed aftermarket system will blow away any factory system.  I just want something better than what I have without making major modifications, or incurring major expense.  Having some answers to the questions I asked in my original post will help me decide if this is worth pursuing.

a few months ago someone asked about the rockford system in the xterra--I dunno if it's the same thing but this page might give you a little more info about it.
