97 Honda Odyssey - Remote start

Hi,

I've been searching for info about finding the tach wire for my van (97 Odyssey). I've got the wiring diagram and I've found the "blue wire at the dist." but when I check with my DMM I get around 30 VAC. As I understand it I should be reading in the 1 -6 volt range. Also the voltage doesn't seem to fluctuate with the engine revs. My remote start directions (Commando 2300) says I can use the fuel injector wire that is "opposite of the common wire" but I get the exact same readings.  The DMM is set to AC voltage and it reads everything else as it should, so I believe the meter is accurate.  Am I doing something wrong or are Hondas just different?

I may have the wrong plug then. Although this is the only plug at the dist.  There are five wires at the plug. Two black, two yellow and the blue wire. One of the black and one of the yellow wires both have stripes on them.

Tonight I went back out there and used the ground of the aux. outlet on my work light as the ground and checked for AC on the blue wire again. This time I read around twelve volts instead of thirty at idle and the voltage DECREASED when the RPM's increased. I'm sure you're not supposed to use a separate ground but I was just trying something different.

For anyone that cares.

I gave up on trying to get the "correct" reading on my DMM. I found the tach wire on my truck ('91 F150) and got similar readings on it so I figured my DMM is screwy or something. Anyway I attached the wire that the diagram shows is my tach wire to the corresponding wire on the remote start and tried to complete the "tach learning" process. Although the LED lights and parking lights did not confirm that the tach learning was complete, the remote start worked fine when I attempted to use it.

Ok. One more question.

Well two actually.

I really believe I've got the wiring right, BUT............... just to make sure, this thing wouldn't work if I didnt.............. Right? I just want to be sure I'm not going to burn up my starter or anything else one day because I've actually hooked up the wrong wire! From my understanding of the directions, it wouldn't function if I didn't have the tach wire hooked up correctly. Just wanna be sure.

Secondly, can anybody suggest a good soldering iron? Mine sux.
