All,

I have a remote starter I'd like to install in my 2002 Ram 1500, but all of the wiring diagrams I've seen are conflicting in many item, such as Ignition wire 2 & 3, and I don't know what to believe.

It's a Bulldog Security starter (not the best, but affordable) and their website lists wires for IGN2 & IGN3 that are hot ALL THE TIME.  I'm no pro, but I KNOW those wires shouldn't be hot.

Sadly, I can't find any good info.  Can anyone help me out with this?  A complete list would make my week!!!

Thanks,

Mark

Jeff,

Thanks for everything...and I'm sorry to be a persistent pain in the arse, but I'm confused by the wiring diagram just a little bit.

You show IGN3 being two wires, as well as the ACC being two wires.

I understand the method behind outputting IGN2 on the starter to 2 relays, and then hooking them up to IGN2 and IGN3, but what do I do with the OTHER IGN3 wire?  Same question for the ACC wire....

Confused,

Mark

The second ACC may not be necessary for remote start. Find the primary ACC wire and hook it up to 12 volts and if the AC/heater comes on, then you don't need to have the 2nd ACC wired up. Thre are conflicting wiring diagram out on the internet that says that the 2002 Ram has not 3 rd ignition and some say it does. Try to hook up only the 2 ignition wires and see if the remote starter will work and all of the accessories. If there is a problem , the check engine light or ABS light will light up. If this is the case, then all you have to do is find the 3 rd ignition wires and hook up a relay like the 2 nd ignition relay to BOTH 3 rd ignition wires and your set.

The 2 nd ACC wire you basically hook up the relay the same as the 2 nd ignition wire but change the ACC for the 2 nd ignition.

Makes sense...

Actually, I recently ordered the Mopar repair guide on CD for this vehicle, and I will report back to the BB what the correct wiring is on that 3rd IGN wire debate.

As for the rest of the advice, you've been incredible!!  Thanks a ton!

Howdy Jeff,

I've still not installed this unit, as I've been kinda lazy lately...since it's my own vehicle, I'm kinda OK with that. =)

But, I have another question.  According to the wiring diagram you posted from DesignTech, IGN3&4 are GREEN and ORANGE wires.  However, after testing these wires out, neither of them show voltage while the key is in the CRANK position, rather just when in the RUN position.  The wires listed as IGN1&2 DO show voltage during both RUN and CRANK.

Does this mean that the wiring diagram is still not correct, or is it possible for ignition wires to not show voltage during starting?

Also, does the SENTRY KEY system from Dodge require some sort of workaround for the starter to operate correctly?

Any help would be great!  Thanks much!!!
