Hi there,
I've looked up this website's 98 Corolla stereo wiring information, but the wire colors that came with my Corolla LE's factory stereo don't match up to it. Has anyone else had the same problem with colors that don't make sense? All my wires are SOLID colors. I have THREE plain-yellow wires, TWO blacks, etc.
Maybe it would help to have a 2-D diagram of the connectors. This is what my car's connectors have. There are two connectors, when facing the back of the stereo (there's an empty slot that is probably meant for a CD changer)
long connector (8 pins)
=============================
Black   Beige    Red   Gray |
                            |
Green   EMPTY    Brown Blue |
=============================
short connector (5 pins)
========================
Black        Red    |
Yellow Yellow Yellow |
========================
From these I'm supposed to translate to the harness that came with my new aftermarket JVC KD-SX990, but given the wiring colors I'm supposed to expect, I can't even figure out what's what. I don't want to blow anything, so I'm hesitant to experiment, and it's been 10 years since I last dealt with a multimeter (though I'm willing if that's the last resort)!
Can anyone help me out? Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated!
Mel

Your best bet is to go to the store and purchase a wiring harness. I think Wal-Mart and auto parts store chains sell them for $5 or so...then all you have to do is match the colors to each other and plug right in.
If you're determined not to use a harness for whatever reason, I'm pretty sure the black in the big harness is ground, and the brown and blue are switched and constant power respectively.
