I'm working on a 2004 Dodge Ram and the installation calls for a connection to a source that goes high when you start the vehicle then goes low when running. The second is to see if the stock stereo (Infinity system with six disk changer in the head unit has a mute connection. Appreciate your help.

Some info and a few questions.

The mute connection that it speaks of is rare on newer model stereos, it will be a dedicated wire hanging off the back of the stereo (usually brown in color), its intent is to attenuate the volume of the stereo (aaprox. 20dB) durring an incomming call to the handsfree device. Not sure about the (high/low) connection its talking about.

I'm not sure of the wire that goes high at start and low while the engine is running, but I have installed two phone kits in my cars before, a Nokia (for phone Nokia 6185) and a Motorola (for my current phone, a V60t from Motorola). They both had a mute output but my radio in both cases (factory Panasonic Radio in the prior car and an Alpine in my new car) did not have any input for a mute signal. Since I did not have a mute cable in the head units, I used a relay that was energized by the mute output from the phone kit's brain. This would cut the power to my radio thereby creating a mute effect. As the phopne conversation was over, the "mute power" to the relay would cease to exist, and thereby release the relay, which would let the power get back to the radio. Also my CD player starts playing from where it left off since power-off, so it was the perfect thing for me. Hope it works for you too.

Hey All,

Thnks for all the great input. One note the cell kit was for a motorola t720 phone from AT&T. The "Sense line I used was the Hot lead off of the cigarette litghter as it is only on when the truck is running or the accessorie is active. I'm still researching the Mute issue. Dodge has a hands free factory install that may use this function, I just need to find the wiring diagram for the radio as it is a combo 6 disk player/radio in one unit from Damlier/Chrysler. There are lots of unsued plugs under the dash and perchance it may be one of those.

Should of talked him in to the new Uconnect for the Dodge line up, it uses bluetooth.
