Allright, I have searched for a few days on this subject, and have turned up no leads. I opened up my mom's doors a bit ago and took out the speakers which crackle and pop as she listens to the radio. I am used to seeing 2 wires connected to the speaker, but both of these speakers have a connector with 4 wires.

The color of these wires are... Red Black Green and Gray... there are no tracers on any of these...

These wires lead into a crecent shaped circuit box which was screwed on the speakers, which have the typical 2 wire output. These colors are White and a Light Blue color.... These 2 wires go into the speaker....

My question is... Why are there 4 wires going to this circuit, what is its function, and will I be able to replace the speakers with aftermarket speakers given these specifications?

Should I just use these crescent shaped circuits and solder new speakers to the white and light blue wires?  Any help is greatly apprecieated!

Does the vehicle have Infinity sounds system, or say anything about upgraded sound? What you probably have is an amplifier on the factory speaker. If this is the case then you cannot just replace the speakers unless replacing with the same exact speaker.   Unfortunately if you have to replace the speakers you will need to replace the radio as well.
