2000 cavalier aftermarket tach

hi could anyone please tell me were i would hook up the wire for an after market tach on a   2000 chevy cavalier 2.4L DOHC (american model) i tried behind the dash and all the wires are in one module and i have tried all the wires on the coil that is hooked up on the spark plug valve cover, i have also tried the two white wires on my pcm and niether one of them worked one of them made my car sound like a lawn mower (lol not normal). any help please.

Hi, i looked on the wire harness and there were lots of purples but no purple and white wires on it, i even tried the purple and white wire on the pcm and that did not work either, if there is any pictures or something i could look at maybe im looking at the wrong thing, i looked at the big wire harness above the transaxle but there was no purple with white on any of the wires just plain purple.
