Been trying to find the wiring schematics for this 2002 BMW Z3 Harmon Kardon System - nice car but the system just sounds like cr*p! Customer is over it, especially with spring break and summer coming they want it louder. Tried running a new car stereo Sony receiver but it still sounds bad. Found out it has a Harmon Kardon Amp in the trunk that is supposedly an 8ch/10ch amp? Anybody ever upgraded one of these? Wiring info would be great! Thanks!

You will need to rewire the system. I have a Z3 M with the so called " upgraded system " and it was crap as well. Re-wired all the speakers to a 4 channel amp and then added sub and remo0ved all OEM speakers from the vehicle. As well, make sure that you deaden the cover for the rear center speaker cover if your going to keep it in the vehicle because it will rattle and buzz..... drives you crazy !

Actually,

They had work done previous at another place which installed a Sony deck and "customized" a center replacement "subwoofer" there. Sounds "okay" - and I'm being nice, BUT could be better and they wired the Sony to the stock speakers! Such mediocrity work and within a few weeks the stereo started cutting out because it was overload with the ohm load going into the stereo. We had to do what you just said - disable the HK amp and take out HK speakers! BIG difference - just fixing the alternator/ground noise now. What do you have in your Z3 now?

I have a 1998 Z3 M Roadster. Replaced the speakers and added 4 channel amplifier. This year will be working on a new rear center enclosure for the 10" subwoofer and add a monoblock amp to it as well. Will also be fiberglassing the front dash for an indash screen & iPod docking station.
