Now  i did contct panasonic and they said was it would work fine with a competitor navi unit but wouldnt  even sugg. whos to buy.  can someone help ..  thanks

HI, I have the same problem. I have a slightly different model than you have. I have the CQ-VD7003U and I'm getting the same runaround by Panasonic. I've spent the last 2 hours on the phone with everyone from various departments at Panasonic, to their dealers such as Circuit City, to their Authorized Service Centers, Crutchfield, etc. NO ONE is giving me a straight answer on this. Some say you can add on a 3rd party gps module, but as you found out, they won't actually suggest one that will work.
I'm wondering if you found anything out on this problem we're both having?

I'm currently in the process of dealing with Panasonic on this. I spoke with a VERY helpful person in (what a surprise) the SALES department. He said he was aware of the problem with these models that promised the add-on GPS module, and has dealt with customers in the past to get them their money refunded! The first step is to call 1(888)806-3575 and get a case number. From there you can track your case's progress. You'll have to fax them an original sales receipt, so I hope that isn't a problem for you. Most retailers can reprint old receipts if you don't have one. It might be a long, frustrating process, but in the end you should get your money back or at least an option to buy a new unit with GPS built in. I'll let you know how my case goes as it progresses (if you post back).

according to Panasonic they are not making an indash Nav unit any more... or at least they are not coming to North America in 2008... only the Strada portable unit.....
