I bought a 10.2" flip down monitor and a seperate mobile dvd player to install in my 2007 Dodge Durango. I have installed numerous car stereos with amps and such, but have never attempted a flip down. My concern is ruining the headliner or disturbing the curtain airbags. Is this something that a novice can do, or would I be better off paying someone else to do it. I searched for this topic before posting and didn't see anything. Any advice would be appreciated. I hope I'm in the correct forum!
Thanks

Professional installation is highly recommended.  The problem isn't so much that you will ruin the headliner, as most overheads require some sort of modification to it.  The modification to the headliner could be as little as screws poking through it to mount the OHV, or as big as cutting out a patch to run wires, mounting plate etc.  The biggest problem in overheads it attaching the monitor so that it doesn't sag or simply fall off the ceiling.  There are metal braces arching under the roofline that gives structural integrity to the roof and provides a point to anchor the overhead.  If you don't know what you're doing you can drill through the roof.  Attaching the OHV to the headliner is not a good idea, as the headliner does not provide a stable platform for screws to hold or structural integrity to actually hold the heavy unit up.

The side curtain airbags can be easily avoided as long as your wiring is not run across or over them.

I had planned on dropping the headliner and getting a peek at what I had to work with and probably fabbing a template to make certain I didn't screw through the roof.

If you're really ready to do that much work (dropping headliner), then give it a shot,  but i also recommend getting it professionally done.  It really isn't necessary to drop the entire headliner though!
