I just bought an '06 silverado with an overhead ADV35 dvd player. The thing worked great for a month until one day the screen got all weird.
the default splash screen would not show up no matter what button i pressed, when i put in a CD or DVD the audio would play but no visual. when i press the source button, in the corner of the screen i'll see green text that says AUX2/TV or DVD, or COMPONENT and immediately after i see the text, the text will dim a lot.
I emailed advent and they said it will cost $165 to repair it, i really dont have that kind of cash to throw down on it right now so if possible i would like to try and repair it myself. any help would be very much appreciated!!!
i am an idiot

It sounds like you may have a broken ribbon cable.  The only problem with you repairing it yourself is that Audiovox will not sell any part that goes inside of their units.  They will sell you a trim piece or a button, but not a single internal part.  They won't even sell to a dealer.

It may be different for the advent line.  But I know they will sell no parts for Audiovox or Jensen products.

Hmm, that's pretty cheap of them, I'm out of the warranty and all I can afford to do is fix it myself right now. Any place I might be able to get a custom ribbon cable??
