first off, hi guys! have been trolling and trying to soak up as much info as i can from all of you here and i must say i am very happy that i found this site. so many great tips and things to learn and i love how people here dont really seem like jerk offs like most guys on forums are when they dont want to teach anybody else anything!
second, heres the issue. i have been trying to find a good head unit that will play most video formats. has navigation. flip out touchscreen.
doesnt have to have hd tuner as it doesnt really matter too much to me if its hd or regular radio. mostly listen to mp3s
it does have to be flip out because i need half of the double din spot for something else.
i would love it if it had a lot for sd cards.
i know finding a deck that can do this stuff is pretty simple, most flip out deck nowadays does pretty much everything i listed
(which now that i look at it, isnt that much) but i cant seem to find many pictures of them installed in cars. the problem im having is that i am looking for it to be pretty flush. i dont like how some that i have seen stick out roughly 3/4" i would love it if the deck could be flush like a stock deck but i do realize sometimes it depends on how the install goes. well anyways my car is a 1991 toyota mr2 turbo and there is a jensen dvd deck in there right now and that thing sticks out about 3/4-1". it seems as though it was designed to be installed that way. weird to me.
i have tried to search this forum for an answer but like i said i havent seen many pictures of installed decks and how far out they protrude if any.
does anyone know of any deck like the one im looking for?
thanks a lot in advance for your time.

If I were you Id wait for Pioneers new line up to come out they look sick (I love my DEH-P980BT its not brand new but has some of the feature just coming out on their new stuff) and they have what your looking for except for the sticking out too far part. I just looked at like 20 flip outs and they all stick out like that. even normal head units (like mine) stick out like that so I don't know were you got that idea from. Also most of the flip outs are going to need an external module for GPS like the one below. I would also look at some Eclipse models While you still can. Some of their units got great reviews for GPS usability as well as some Kenwoods. Stay away from Jenson people have said some pretty consistently bad things about them on here.

thanks for the advice z03mz03m! so where i got the idea from about the somewhat flush fitment is i remember all the "regular" decks that i have installed on my cars over the years have always been able to retain the use of the cupholder beneath it. yes they would stick out a little but i would still have full use of the factory cupholder. now im looking for the above mentioned head unit that would still retain the use of the cupholder. i have seen an alpine unit that is a flip out but when closed it sticks out very little, about 1/2" iirc. i just saw this the other day on my friend's volvo. so now i know that they do exist! good thing since i was beginning to doubt my sanity seeing as how nobody had replied to this topic. my thinking was well if anybody has seen one they would chime in because there is no personal gain in not sharing knowledge. many people have viewed this topic but only one reply.....making me think i was looking for a unicorn. but one does exist, knowing my luck thats probably the only one that does haha.
worse case scenario is i give up the extra din slot and go with a double din unit, which i really dont want to have to resort to since i really want that din slot to mount my boost controller and turbo timer/boost gauge in. master plan was to find a din pocket with door so i can close the door when i leave my car so you dont see the turbo timer/boost gauge and boost controller. up top with the somewhat flush head unit i was thinking about making a blank face plate to make it look like i have no stereo when i have the monitor retracted.
one thought i had on this was to mount the head unit a little further in with some sort of custom brackets or something however i got a little worried about how well the screen would still flip up if recessed in little.
ok enough rambling. thanks again!
