So here is the deal - i bought this thing on ebay and got a good deal at the time. It has worked flawlessly for 4 months. Just today I was taking a long road trip and it came up with a thermal protection fault. When I took out the CD is almost burnt my hand. I then let it cool down while i listened to XM - i ahve all external amps so that not the problem. What can it be?

IS this anyting I can fix myself?\

theres a small fan on the rear of these unit, maybe the fan went bad?? that would cause and abnormal rise in temp. you might be able to check it without taking out the unit. sit inside your car and close the doors and windows so thats its silent inside. then turn on the unit with volume all the way down...try n hear for a fan spinning. if you dont hear the fan, open upi your dash and pull out the unit and see for yourself if the fan is not spinning. if its not, theres your problem..as far as finding that exact fan size...good luck..looks to me like a 30mm fan...but im not sure.

if the fan works, i really dont know..did u have the heater on? hot day??

hope this helps,

rgds

well i thought of that also - I took out the unit and and the fan is working! But when i put the unit back in a arranged the wires so that there is some (1/2 inch) of room between the fan and the firewall. I hope that helps. Will let you know if I find anything else out.
