Hello,
I have some quick questions for everyone here. sorry if these are dumb but I am a newbee...
I am looking to install a DVD/TV system in my 2002 SeaRay 240 Sundancer. I don't see any posts for boats in here but I don't see where there should be any difference between a boat and a car (other than, of course, the structural issues).
Here are some of my questions:
1.) I am looking at buying a 7" or 8" stand-alone LCD monitor. Been looking at so many I have lost count. I have nearly decided on the Rosen FD7569 as some on this forum have posted it has a good image AND it comes with a seperate stand/mount I can use to attach it to the boat (not the headrest mount, but a flush mounting / pedestal mount). Does anyone here know if other brands come with a similar mount. Some of the brands I have looked at are Acclevision and Pioneer. I also looked at Power Acoustik, Farenheit, and Performance Technique. How good are the Rosen LCDs? Any alternative suggestions?
2.) I looked at the Pioneer AVD-W8000 LCD...seems very nice, but the price is very high. Anyone have any experience with this unit? Problems? Prase? Also, does it have some kinda flush mount / adjustable bracket for mounting on a wall?
3.) I am looking at the Blaupaunt DVD-ME3 player, again same questions...anyone have it, hate or love it? Have an alternative suggestion for a DVD/TV tuner unit?
4.) Looking at WIRELESS FM Modulators and looking for some advice for a brand to consider.
5.) Finally, to anyone on this forum who has installed units like this on a boat. Am I looking at serious power drains here? I have two 100amp hour rated batteries and really just want to run the stuff off one battery when we campout overnight. I don't see where this stuff (LCD, DVD, FM modulator, IR headphone transmitter, and powered antenna) would be more than a 3-4 amp draw...plus whatever I draw if I use the radio for sound instead of the IR headphones...but if anyone has had other experience please let me know...
Ok...thats all for now. See..quick questions! HAH! Many thanks in advance for the help...

Hey Keith,

First of all I want to give you some props for going after the video in your boat. I've had some trouble convincing customers of it!  Rosen in my opinion is one of the best screens in ithe market. They have excellent clarity and are really bright.  I also have a DVD-ME1 in my car, which i believe is the same thing just a few models ago. It's not a bad player but mine doesn't have digital sound or any better option than a simple rca video connection. In my mobile experience, if you can connect a screen using s-video or component, you'll get a much cleaner picture. Don't get me wrong, the DVD player is bad, there might just something out there that's better.  It also has very few buttons on the actuall player. So make sure that you have extra batteries for the remote! You might consider putting a master switch on all of your stereo and video pieces so that the little standby lights and such dont continually draw power. There are also some devices that you can buy to ensure that your battery will start. They monitor the voltage on the battery and shut the battery down if the voltage is too low. This might help you make sure that you always have enough juice to start you engine. Nothing is worse than dumping your boat in and then finding out that you battery is dead! Believe me, I know from experience!!! Best of luck to you. Email me if I can help you out anymore.

Thanks so much for your reply Scott. Would you or anyone know what name of the battery auto-shutoff devices? I would really love to install one of these on the boat as well.
