Hey guy.  I'm new to this forum, but I must say that this site is excellent!  My question is this.  I installed an aftermarket radio in a 2004 Excursion that has the OEM Rear DVD system.  I used the typical metra dash kit and harness, and everything went well except that now the DVD doesn't work.  Now, the factory radio had two plugs, the radio plug and the one with the speed sensor wire in it.  Does anyone have experience in hardwiring the DVD system to work with an aftermarket radio?

check periphial.com and pac-audio.com they may have an interface.  does your new head unit have an aux. input?  I have wired a dvd and monitor to work with out the factory stereo before, but it has been a couple years ago.  you may have to pull the dvd player and see what colors the wires are coming out are then see if they are the same in the dash.  that way you know which ones you need for it.

I've seen two oem video set ups for Ford.  One system has a "remote" wire that sends 12 volts to the screen/dvd when the radio is on and the other system has a "communication" wire that sends data information to tell the screen/dvd to turn on or off.

You can win the battle either way.  If the system uses a remote 12volt turn on wire, simply power this wire up.  If it uses the data wire, you will have to relocate the factory radio - extending power, ground, switched, and data.

As far as the audio goes, they are all the same.  You can hard wire rca ends to the factory audio wires and plug them into an aux in on your new radio, or use an fm mod.

For pin-out info on the factory plug, go to www.carstereohelp.net/wireharness.htm (select FORD and hit GO).

Plug J3  -  pin 5 is remote 12 volt

pin 17, 18, 19, 20 are the audio wires from the factory dvd

Good Luck!
