RE:CVA-1000 video bypass...
Ok guys here is the heads up, There are two different versions of the Alpine CVA-1000. They are only different internally as far as their firm ware. The first version will let you input video through the nav input you can either do this by splicing into an old nav cable and finding the grey/shield coax pair but this is not recommended. Alpine sells a KCE 110V video relay which will plug into the nav harness that will allow input of a backup cam or video source. (and you can still keep your nav box) Audio can be sent through the nav line in mono by finding the RED / shield coax pair, or stereo by buying Alpines KCA 801B. This relay box allows you to run stereo audio through the AI-NET cable without losing the CD changer audio. It acts as a simple pass through but when current is applied to the remote line it acts as a bypass. To operate you must be in changer mode then push the V.SEL button on the display. (be sure to energize audio/video relays) Be sure not to connect the white wire on the KCE-110V to the display or you will bypass the audio. OK...the second version. The second version can be identified by 1) The alpine logo in the right bottom corner(when closed) is missing. 2) When you have an input connected to the nav port you will have 2 seconds of video and then a message on the screen saying no nav connected. To go around this...you must splice the nav cable. This is the only way to obtain audio and video input to the unit. Use the gray/shield coax pair for video and the RED / shield coax pair for the audio(mono only). Then you will have to supply 12V+ to the WHITE/ green guide control input wire located on the back of the display unit when wanting to view video. I recommend a toggle switch in this application. In both applications I recommend connecting the yellow/blue parking brake lead to ground so you can have control of all of your audio adjustments. Who would like to add another monitor to the CVA-1000? To add another monitor all you have to do is locate the green and black pair of wires on the control unit on the connector labeled display output, these wires are right next to each other pins 1 and 2, just piggy back the extra monitor input across these wires green=video, black=ground. I would not recommend connecting more than 1 monitor to this output due to the fact that its output is only 1 Vpk-pk. To connect more than 1 monitor use a video amplifier. The monitor will only work in video input mode, not when you are listening to the tuner or playing CD's. It has taken me a little while gathering all of this information, through trial and error I have mastered the CVA-1000. I hope this is of use to anyone who has one of these units.
