Heres what I was trying to do:

I purchased a 2006 Ford Factory navigation unit out of a 2006 Ford Explorer and retrofitted it into my 2005 Ford F150 Supercab.  Actually it fit perfectly and plugged right into the factory harness.  The problem I was having was the map did not track on the screen.  I had a good GPS signal and when I started the Nav unit it showed my location.  It just did not move when I was driving.  After much research I tracked the problem down to the Nav unit not seeing the VSS signal.

The Nav unit for the Explorer looks for the VSS and Illiumination signals via the CAN BUS on the 16 pin (middle connector) on back of radio. The CAN BUS is kind of like a computer network in your car that sends and receives all kinds of information from your vehicle and sends it back to the car's computer.  The 2005 F150 pickups are hard wired for the VSS and Illumination on the 24 pin connector on the back of the radio. So in order to put this unit in an F150 it has to be reprogrammed to look for the VSS and Illumination signals on the 24 pin connector. Depending on whether you have a subwoofer or not it can also be programed for that also. Mine dosen't have a subwoofer so I was loosing some bass. They reprogrammed it so that it didn't split the signal and send the bass to a sub. Amazing what computers can do! lol

So there you have it.

Take care,

Willie

Willie,

That is great info.  I have an '05 F150 that I installed an '06 nav unit from an expedition into and I am having the same problem (tracking).  How did you reprogram the unit?  I do not have the subwoofer.

Thanks

I am doing an installation with the same unit and I also need to make some programming changes. Who is "they"  and how was the programming done? The local Ford dealer referred me to the people that service their units but that proved to be a dead end. They were not familiar with the new units.
