I wanted to know if it would be ok to tap the + and - leads into a heater switch located next to the front seats of my 2004 Nissan Quest to power the standalone DVD player. I have already successfully been using an FM transmitter that is powered by the leads to the passenger heater switch.  Would it be ok to tap the heater to power the DVD player, or could that possibly casue a short becasue it is drawing to much power for the wire which is more or less 18AWG. The Specs on the DVD player is a 20 W power consumption. Thank You

If I was you I would run a stand alone power from the ignition harness and fuse it so as not to short out your heater wire. Also ground it seperately to reduce any chances of shorts or overloads!

Yes and no! I would run another power altogether. Preferably from the ignition harness. And yes to a seperate ground.

As long as I fuse the + lead to the switch, I should be fine right?. If I find that the dvd player is overloading the heater switch wire I will then run a lead from the ignition. Thank You for your help.
