Hey guys, i did a search and didnt get the comprehensive answers im looking for.
I have an 03 Nav and need to find the VSS wire and the reverse light wire. I know the VSS wire is black grey but what about the reverse light? Also the stock radio mutes when the truck is in reverse so im thinking there might be a wire right at the deck, is that true as well as the vss wire? The stock unit is the regular 6 cd player.
thanks in advance!
Ken

Should be BLACK/ pink.  I usually find it in the harness to the rear, but there have been a few that I couldn't find, so I just ran a wire to the tail light.  As for the VSS a lot of times you can get it at the radio, it is usually in a secondary harness not the main radio one.

Check pin 9 in a 20 pin plug at the back of the radio for the VSS. The VSS color you want is gray/black.
There is no reverse wire at the OEM radio, there is a parking aid mute wire (dark blue pin 1), but it is negative, not positive like a reverse wire. The reverse wire in the vehicle is BLACK/ pink and you should be able to find it in the driver or passenger kick panel.
Good luck,
Mike

Hey Mike thanks for that thorough answer!! Quick question on that mute wire, yes its negative and the reverse wire is pos. But on the unit im installing it lets you choose of the reverse wire is neg or pos, so in theory, can i use the mute wire as the reverse signal wire? It does mute the radio when the truck is in reverse and you can hear the reverse sonar. The navigation unit i have uses dead reackoning. It uses the VSS wire and they want me to hook up the reverse sensor wire which is the reverse light wire.
this is what it says to connect the reverse light...
REVERSE LIGHT POLARITY- Select high or LOW. Set to high (most common) if a pos high voltage is detected when the reverse lights are illuminated. Set to LOW if no or low voltage is detected when the reverse lights are illumintaed.
LEt me know guys!
thanks
Ken
