I am trying to install a 15.4 inch flip down monitor into a 2001 Ford Excursion. My problem is that the rear A/C controls and main vent go straight down the middle. I am writing to see if there is and easier way of doing this. I was thinking of tack welding the stock mount to a larger piece of sheet metal to distribute the weight over a larger area. Somebody Please help me with this. There has to be a better way. I don't want to mount directly to the main Vent.

You can remove the rear AC controls and it will still work fine.  As far as the vent, you can remove it and relocate it further back.  Take some Duct tape or something similar to cover the vent hole you've removed.
